URGENT!!! Opinion on a poem!?

My best friend Kelly is an OUTSTANDING writer, and she honestly doesn't have a clue. Look at this poem she wrote, and write your opinion please. Be honest, but don't be rude. I really think she could go places with that writing :]

What is Love?

Love is a word that confuses us all,

It can lift us up, or make us fall,

Love can bring us together, or tear us apart,

Either way, it鈥檚 a change of heart,

When you love someone, and give them your best,

You get this feeling, deep in your chest,

It makes you happy, it makes you glad,

Although at time, it can make you sad.

How is it though, that love can make your heart cry or sing?

Well as previously mentioned, love is a complicated thing.

So what exactly, is this love?

It鈥檚 a wonderful gift, sent from angels above.

Said gift can survive through all sorts of weather,

Deep as the sea, or light as a feather

At times love can seem nearly impossible,

But then you realize- it鈥檚 unstoppable.

No matter the situation, time or place,

True love will find you, and make your heart race.

When true love finds you, you鈥檒l know its right,

Because that鈥檚 the person that will try with all their might,

To see you content, and full of glee,

And know that you live happily.

Now don鈥檛 get me wrong, love can turn hate,

And sometimes love is just a matter of fate.

Some get lucky, others do not,

And some just avoid love, lucky or not.

This is so, because at times people are scared,

Love is a gamble, at times too hard to bear.

But love can be a rewarding experience, and quite the entice,

So take a chance, roll the dice.

You may reach the moon, or fall a little short,

But after all, that鈥檚 what stars are for.

Don鈥檛 give up, keeep on trying,

For love can be鈥?Mezmerizing.

Don鈥檛 let your spirits fall if something goes wrong,

Get back up, and sing a cheerful song.

Continue happily on your way,

And perservere until that one special day.

When you awake you shall find,

An entirely new state of mind.

Full of love, and full of hope,

From then on, you shall not mope.

You can wed your to-be husband or wife,

And life a happy and full life.

As you can see, love is a wonderful thing.

With all the delight it may bring.

So what are you doing, still standing there?

Get off the seat, someone鈥檚 out there!

Patiently waiting for you to appear,

So go on out, and have no fear.

If true love is headed your way,

Make the most of it- and have a lovely day.URGENT!!! Opinion on a poem!?
For me, the poem leans too much on obvious rhymes, and she uses 'way' and 'day' twice. Then there is hate and fate, find and mind, place and race. These pairs have just been used too many times and it tires you out to see them again. Instead of searching for original images, she leans on rhymes which are by now cliche.

Poetry is the art of hiding our meaning just a bit, in order to make the reader search us out.

It usually tries to show us, with images, instead of just telling us with statements or facts. That is journalism, not poetry.

It should surprise us with language we never thought of before. Above all it must avoid cliche.

Your poem shows you have plenty of feeling, but you know, we all want our own feelings, not someone else feeling for us.

Reading a poem, we are all like children: we want to be surprised.

What do you think of this:

Among twenty snowy mountains,

the only moving thing

was the eye of the blackbird.

Of course if we can see 20 snowy mountains, we cannot see at the same time a bird麓s eye.

But the contrast between great and small, black and white, stability and movement,

is so interesting, who cares if it is true?

Tell us some great lies, give us a big surprise, an emotion, make us feel!URGENT!!! Opinion on a poem!?
